OUR PRESS

Back in production

In January 2025, Crescent Duck Farm faced the greatest challenge in its history. What followed was a year of hard work, community support, and a steady rebuild — and today, we’re back in production. Here’s that story, in the words of the people who covered it.

JANUARY 2025

The Outbreak

A bird flu outbreak forced the culling of our entire flock, ending, for a time, operations that had run continuously on this land for generations. The story drew national attention.

The Community Responds

Long Island rallied around our team. Chefs, neighbors, and former customers organized support for laid-off workers, and within weeks, the first new chicks had hatched.

FEB – NOV 2025

The Rebuild

What followed was a slow, deliberate rebuild — new breeding stock, new hatchlings, and the patient work of bringing a flock back from nothing. Every step was documented as the farm found its footing again.

Recognition

In January 2026, that resilience was recognized when Doug Corwin was named the Riverhead News-Review's Person of the Year — a fitting close to a hard year, and the opening chapter of what comes next.
